Sumiyoshi Shrine

**Wedding season:** March–May and October–November, the shrine hosts traditional Shinto weddings most Saturdays and Sundays. The procession through the stone-paved approach, with the bride in white shiromuku and the priest in formal court robes, is a genuine privilege to witness quietly from the approach path. **Ancient well:** In the north garden behind the main hall, a stone-rimmed well dating from the Heian period still holds water. The surrounding area — untouched and ungated — is one of the most genuinely old-feeling spaces in central Fukuoka.
