武雄温泉的中心公共浴场「元汤」，坐落于1915年以能舞台样式建成的建筑内——一座朱漆木造楼门（1788年建，登录为重要文化财）点缀着参道。浴场本身至少自8世纪起不曾间断营业，相传其碱性泉曾为丰臣秀吉朝鲜出兵期间所享用。内部设有造型罕见的露天风吕：泉水直接自地面涌入花岗岩浴池。
