**Daruma purchasing:** The temple grounds and surrounding streets sell daruma dolls in every size (9cm-60cm) and color — red (success, good luck), white (passing exams), gold (wealth), pink (love), purple (health). Traditional red daruma (¥800-2,000 for 12-18cm) are most common. Purchase at temple shops or from artisan workshops (工房見学, kobo kengaku, open to visitors). Watch artisans hand-paint facial features using traditional brushes — the mustache, beard, and eyebrows are stylized in classical patterns. **Eye-painting ritual:** When you buy a daruma, both eyes are blank white. Decide on your goal/wish, then paint the left eye black (using a marker or brush provided at temple). Place the daruma in a visible location at home or office as daily reminder. When your goal is achieved (or at year-end), paint the right eye.
