博多町家ふるさと館は、歴史ある祇園地区の明治期の町家3棟を復元して建つ。建物はここに移築され、露しの木組み、土壁、襖など元の材で丹念に再建されて、一世紀前の博多の商人層の暮らしと仕事ぶりを見せる。館の特色は博多織の伝統だ — 今も最高級の帯に使われる博多織の絹織りの技を、常駐の織り手が復元された織機で実演する。
