高千穂峡は五ヶ瀬川が古い火山の玄武岩の柱を刻んでできた日本屈指の劇的な自然の景観だ。峡谷は約7km続き、両側に80〜100m聳える見事な垂直の断崖を持つ。中心は真名井の滝、下のエメラルドの川に直接落ちる17mの滝だ。
貸しボートを借りて水面から峡谷を体験できる — 真に忘れ難い視点だ。早朝の訪問は撮影者に川から立つ霧の報いを。
