Every January (second Sunday), Sanjusangen-do Temple hosts Toshiya (通し矢) — a coming-of-age archery ceremony where 20-year-old women in furisode (long-sleeved kimono) shoot arrows down the temple's 120-meter hall. The tradition dates to the Edo period when samurai tested skills by attempting to shoot the hall's length; the current record is 8,133 consecutive hits.

The modern ceremony is less competitive and more celebratory — young women celebrating adulthood (成人の日, Seijin no Hi) participate in traditional archery as a rite of passage. Spectators can watch from the temple veranda (free, first-come seating).
