Kitahama Retro Buildings
Kitahama (北浜) is Osaka's financial district along Yodoyabashi/Kitahama subway stations, preserving 15+ Meiji/Taisho-era (1868–1926) Western-style buildings now repurposed as cafes, restaurants, and boutiques. These brick and stone buildings survived WWII bombing and modern redevelopment, creating architectural time capsule.
The district's charm is understated — business district during weekdays, quiet on weekends, with architectural gems hidden among modern office buildings. Walking the area reveals ornate facades, art deco details, and early 20th-century urban planning. Coffee shops occupy restored banking halls with 5-meter ceilings, marble columns, and original fixtures — sipping coffee in 100-year-old financial institution creates unique atmosphere.
