别府的「地狱」是七座壮观的地热温泉，温度过高、化学成分过于极端而无法泡汤——纯粹供人观赏。每座地狱都呈现不同的自然奇观：海地狱因矿物质溶解而呈钴蓝色，血池地狱因氧化铁而呈鲜红色，龙卷地狱每30分钟喷发一次高达20公尺的沸水。水温介于95°C至99.5°C之间。

七座地狱分布于两个区域：铁轮地区5座，柴石地区2座。联票：¥2,200（全7座），单独入场每座¥450。开放时间：8:00–17:00。从别府站搭巴士20分钟可达铁轮地区。
