镰仓大佛是一尊13.35公尺高、重121公吨的青铜阿弥陀佛,铸造于1252年的镰仓时代——当时这座海滨小镇是日本实质上的首都。大佛原本供奉于巨大的木造大殿内,该建筑1498年被海啸摧毁,此后大佛露天承受风雨逾500年——风化的青铜绿锈与露天的姿态,带来一股强烈的恒常与宁静之感。
近看大佛的尺度令人惊叹——可绕行基座360度,观察袈裟细腻的衣褶、半阖双眼冥想的祥和神情,以及某些角度可见的铸造接缝。大佛中空(1923年地震后以铁条加固),可加¥50入内部看13世纪的铸造结构与工法。宏伟的尺度、历史意义与露天的姿态,使它成为日本最具代表性的佛像之一。
