川越的藏造老街保留了日本最完整的江户时代商人町之一——逾30座17至19世纪建造的土仓(藏),厚实的黑墙与瓦顶逃过了关东大地震与摧毁邻近东京的多次火灾。漫步在这条400公尺长的街道上,宛如走进一幅浮世绘版画——传统甜品店、工艺品店与咖啡厅,如今占用着曾经储存稻米、丝绸与清酒的建筑。
「小江户」这个称号反映了川越历史上作为东京(当时的江户)补给站与文化卫星城的角色。当年建造这些防火仓库的富裕商人,透过建筑细节竞相展示财富——雕刻屋瓦、精致大门与家纹。这条街道的保存纯属意外——川越在明治时期的经济衰退,意味着这些建筑从未经历现代化改建,因而凝固在时光之中。
