黑部水坝高186公尺,是日本第一高坝,这座工程奇迹于1963年完工,历时7年建造、牺牲171条人命。水坝横跨黑部峡谷492公尺,拦蓄着翡翠色的黑部湖水,为中部日本供应水力发电。这座拱形混凝土结构可经由阿尔卑斯路线或关西电力的隧道抵达。
每年6月下旬至10月中,水坝会放流每秒10吨以上的泄洪水量——这道轰然而下的水瀑,在晴天的水雾中常会出现彩虹。多个观景点提供不同视角:坝顶(可步行横越)、新展望台(侧面高处视角)以及ガルベ(靠近水花的基座平台)。工程资料馆详述水坝的建造历程,包括在海拔1470公尺处,穿越不稳定岩层与极端气候所进行的艰险隧道工程。
水坝全年皆可经由阿尔卑斯路线(4月中至11月)或从长野侧的扇泽前往(冬季通行有限)。黑部湖夏季(6–11月)提供观光游船。
