Sefurisan (1,077m), on the border between Saga and Fukuoka prefectures, is the highest peak in northern Kyushu and carries a summit beech (buna) forest unlike anything accessible from Fukuoka City — old-growth trees with massive root structures extending over the trail surface, a canopy so dense the trail feels like a tunnel. The mountain is virtually unknown outside the hiking community and offers complete solitude on weekdays.

Guía privilegiada

Premium
**Summit beech grove:** The beech forest begins at approximately 800m and continues to the summit — 277m of continuous broadleaf canopy. In October, the beech leaves turn pale gold before falling, creating a floor-level carpet that extends to the horizon. This specific ecosystem is rare in Kyushu. **Winter conditions:** January–February, the summit carries 20–50cm of snow — the beech trees develop snow accumulation on their branches that creates a structural ice sculpture effect on clear post-storm mornings. Crampons necessary for the upper section.
