The Momochi district, built on reclaimed land in the 1990s to host the 1989 Asia-Pacific Expo, contains an unexpectedly pleasant stretch of coastline: Marizon (a yacht basin turned wedding and event venue), a continuous beach promenade facing Hakata Bay, and the iconic Fukuoka Tower (234m) which looks out over the bay toward Nokonoshima Island. The beach runs 650m and is a genuine city beach — swimming from July to August, beach volleyball year-round, and an evening promenade culture that mirrors Rio de Janeiro's Ipanema in miniature.

Guide d'initié

Premium
**Tower at night:** Fukuoka Tower's illumination changes seasonally and for special occasions. The Tanabata decoration (July) and Christmas lights (December) make the observation deck romantic and crowd-free after 21:00. **Hidden beach bar:** At the northern end of the beach, a small shack bar opens during summer (June–September) until midnight. It has no name, no sign, and serves cold beer and yakitori — entirely word-of-mouth.
