Kamogawa Sea World, opened in 1970, is one of Japan's most advanced marine parks, known for its orca (killer whale) breeding program — one of the few successful programs globally. The park's massive 7,000-ton ocean stadium allows orcas, dolphins, and belugas to perform acrobatic shows against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, creating a surreal effect where performing animals and wild ocean merge.

Beyond the shows, the aquarium's Tropical Island exhibit recreates a coral reef ecosystem with a 7-meter-deep tank housing sea turtles, rays, and reef sharks. The Polar Adventure zone features Arctic and Antarctic species (penguins, seals, sea lions) in climate-controlled habitats. The park emphasizes conservation education alongside entertainment.

**Orca show timing:** The Shamu Stadium orca performance (30 min) occurs 3-4 times daily (schedule varies seasonally). Arrive 30 minutes early for front-row 'splash zone' seats — the orcas intentionally create waves that drench the first 10 rows. The show demonstrates the animals' intelligence, power, and relationship with trainers — controversial globally but Japan maintains the program. **Behind-the-scenes tour:** The 'Animal Discovery Tour' (¥3,000, advance reservation required) takes visitors backstage to see food preparation, training sessions, and veterinary facilities. The tour includes feeding sea lions and touching a dolphin under trainer supervision. Limited to 10 people per session. **Night aquarium:** Summer (July–August) weekends feature evening openings until 20:00 with special lighting in the tanks. The night beluga whale show set to illuminated music is the park's most atmospheric event. **Best season:** Winter (December–February) has smallest crowds despite excellent weather on the Kamogawa coast. The outdoor marine mammal pools are heated, and the animals are active. Summer (July–August) is peak family season with 60+ minute waits for popular shows.
