**Photography timing:** The cliffs face northwest, making late afternoon (15:00–17:00) optimal for photography when sunlight rakes across the columnar surfaces, emphasizing texture and shadow. Overcast skies create moody, dramatic atmospheres. Winter storm days (safe to visit but bring windproof layers) produce the most spectacular wave action — arrive at high tide for maximum impact. **The boat tour advantage:** The 30-minute cruise reveals geological details invisible from the clifftop: horizontal lava flow layers stacked like a deck of cards, sea caves carved through weaker sections, and the hexagonal column cross-sections. The boat captain (Japanese-language narration only) times the approach to coincide with wave sets for dramatic photo ops. Tours cancel in high winds — check weather forecasts. **Lighthouse walk:** A 15-minute walk north from the main Tojinbo viewpoint leads to Tojinbo Lighthouse (東尋坊灯台), a small white tower overlooking the entire cliff formation. This vantage provides the best overview photograph capturing the full geological scale. The path is unmarked — follow the coastal trail north along the clifftop. **Oshima Island bridge:** A 200-meter footbridge connects the mainland to Oshima Island, a forested rock outcrop with a small shrine (Oshima Park). The island's east side offers a reverse view of Tojinbo from the water perspective. Walking the circumference takes 20 minutes and is almost tourist-free despite being 5 minutes from the main site.
