河口湖は富士五湖で最もアクセスしやすく開けた湖で、気象条件が揃えば最も澄んだ富士の映り込みを見せる。標高833m、富士の頂の真北にあり、凪の朝に現れる象徴的な「逆さ富士」をなす。北岸にホテル、博物館、展望台が並び、静かな東岸・西岸は多く手つかず。
湖は富士五湖地域の観光の拠点で、ハイキング道、温泉、季節の祭りにアクセスしやすい。最も有名な眺めは大石公園のラベンダー畑（6月下旬）から、紫の花が湖を縁取りその先に富士がそびえる。冬は最も澄んだ富士と、凍った湖縁に雪の冠を映す富士の撮影の機会を与える。

混雑回避のコツ
大石公園は桜（4月）と紅葉（11月）に大混雑。長浜なら同じ眺めをずっと少ない人出で。紅葉回廊は11月の週末11時に満杯 — 9時か16時以降に。
駐車場情報
湖周辺に複数の有料駐車（1日300〜500円）。河口湖駅一帯に大きな公共駐車場。週末とピークは早く満車。東京からは公共交通を推奨。

逆さ富士の条件: 完璧な映り込みには三つ: (1)澄んだ富士（カメラで確認）、(2)無風（早朝6:00〜7:30）、(3)降水なし。冬の朝（12〜2月）が最も確率が高い — 全条件を満たすのは約15〜20%の日。
季節別の最良の展望地: 春（4月）: 大石公園の桜と富士。夏（6月20日〜7月10日）: 大石公園のラベンダー。秋（11月）: 北岸の紅葉回廊が150mの赤い天蓋のトンネル。冬（1〜2月）: 凍った湖縁と雪の富士。
遊覧船のタイミング: アンソレイユ号（欧州の外輪船風）が20分の湖巡りを9:30〜16:30に毎時。開放の上甲板が岸の遮りなく富士を360°。撮影の光は午後遅く（15:30〜16:30出航）の黄金の側光。
静かな穴場: ピーク時の混む大石公園を飛ばし、東へ徒歩15分の長浜へ — 同じ富士の眺めで人出10分の1の小石の岸。産屋ヶ崎（河口湖駅の東へ車5分）の木の展望台が人出なく高い湖のパノラマを。
