1874년 영국인 기술자 리처드 헨리 브런턴이 건립한 이누보사키 등대는 간토 지방 최동단인 이누보곶에 높이 31m로 서 있다. 흰 벽돌 탑은 일본에 16곳뿐인 '오를 수 있는 등대' 중 하나로, 99개의 나선형 계단이 태평양을 360도로 조망할 수 있는 전망대까지 이어진다. 맑은 날엔 수평선 위 지구의 곡률까지 볼 수 있다.
조시의 위치 덕분에 이곳은 일본에서 가장 먼저 해가 뜨는 곳 중 하나다(후지산도 이 타이틀을 주장한다). 1월 1일엔 수천 명이 새벽 전부터 등대에 모여 하쓰히노데(初日の出) — 새해 첫 일출, 매우 상서롭다고 여겨지는 순간 — 을 목격한다. 태양이 바다에서 주황빛 불꽃처럼 솟아오르는 모습을 매년 사진가들이 쫓는다.
