Osu Shopping District (大須商店街) is Nagoya's most eclectic neighborhood, blending centuries-old temples, retro arcades, maid cafes, second-hand kimono shops, and international street food under covered shopping arcades spanning 1,700+ stores.
The arcades divide into distinct zones: Banshoji Arcade features electronics and anime goods competing with Tokyo's Akihabara; Niomon Arcade specializes in vintage clothing and American imports from the 1950s–70s; Higashi Niomon offers international cuisine (Turkish kebabs, Taiwanese boba, Brazilian churrasco). The entire district operates as organized chaos — Buddhist incense mingles with grilled takoyaki aromas, and traditional obaachan (grandmothers) shopping for tea share sidewalks with cosplayers.
