兼六园(「兼具六胜的庭园」)与水户偕乐园、冈山后乐园并列日本三名园。这座11.7公顷的庭园由统治的前田家历经170年(1676–1840)打造,作为金泽城的外庭,展现掌控封建日本最富庶稻米产区的加贺藩之财富与文化涵养。庭园兼具六种造景要素:宏大、幽邃、人力、苍古、水泉与眺望。
庭园的核心是霞池,池畔矗立着标志性的双脚徽轸灯笼——日本最常被拍摄的庭园一景。庭园四季变换:春樱(逾400株)、夏鸢尾与杜鹃、秋枫,以及冬季护树防雪的雪吊。兼六园式的回游庭园,引人沿蜿蜒小径而行、每转一弯便见新景——茶室、瀑布、石桥与古树,构成造园艺术的杰作,达成日本美学中自然之美与人工雕琢完美平衡的理想。
