鸟取砂丘沿日本海岸绵延16公里,最高处达50公尺,是日本最独特的自然景观。这片沙丘经过10万年由千代川挟带的沉积物堆积、再由海风雕塑而成,是日本规模最大的沙丘,氛围格外超现实——随季节变化起伏的金色丘陵、每日重新塑形的风纹波痕,以及沙与海相接的地平线。
这里的体验刻意打造出「非日式」的氛围:由当地向导带领的骆驼乘骑沿棱线而行、滑翔伞从最高峰起飞、滑沙板吸引冒险爱好者挑战陡坡,还有宽胎脚踏车租借,让游客能深入步行难以抵达的区域。砂丘边缘的沙之美术馆每年更换巨型沙雕展览主题,从埃及金字塔到文艺复兴艺术皆有,全由国际艺术家亲手雕刻。冬季造访可见罕见奇景——白雪覆盖的沙丘,这种景象在地球上几乎绝无仅有。
