**Sunday cultural performances:** The rockabilly dancers (ロカビリー, 1950s-style greasers) gather near the Harajuku Gate fountain every Sunday 13:00-17:00 (weather permitting). The dancers are middle-aged men reliving 1950s American rock culture — leather jackets, pompadour hair, dancing to Elvis and Buddy Holly. Photography is allowed; the dancers enjoy the attention. The scene is uniquely Japanese — earnest, nostalgic, and anachronistic. **Picnic culture:** The park allows alcohol, making it Tokyo's prime outdoor drinking spot. Weekends see groups picnicking with konbini (convenience store) food, beer, and portable speakers. Lawson and Family Mart (both Near park) sell picnic supplies (bentos ¥400-700, beer/chuhai ¥150-300, snacks). Bring a ground sheet (or buy blue tarp from 100-yen shops nearby). Trash must be taken with you (no park bins). **Cherry blossom season:** Yoyogi's 700+ cherry trees (mostly Somei Yoshino) bloom late March-early April. The hanami atmosphere is less chaotic than Ueno Park — more chill, fewer tour groups. The central lawn (between Harajuku and Yoyogi Gates) is most densely planted. Arrive early (8:00-10:00) on weekends to secure spots for hanami parties. Night illumination does not occur (unlike Ueno), but the park stays open after dark. **Running & cycling:** The park's perimeter path (1.2km loop) is popular with joggers and cyclists. Rental bicycles available near Harajuku Gate (¥500/hour). The path connects to Meiji Shrine's forest trails, creating a 3-4km combined loop. Early morning (6:00-8:00) sees serious runners; afternoons are leisurely.
