一座朱紅鳥居矗立於嶙峋的岩石平台上,滿潮時浪花在此炸裂成白色水花。神磯鳥居標誌著大洗磯前神社的入口,供奉著相傳數世紀前在此顯現的大己貴命與少彥名命。退潮時可直接走到鳥居的混凝土基座旁,近到能看見朱紅漆面上的鹽晶,以及緊附在岩石上的藤壺。
每年兩次——約在3月20日與9月15日前後——太陽會直接從鳥居的框景中升起,攝影師天未亮就會沿著混凝土觀景平台佔位。這段對齊期每次約持續一週,儘管雲層與海霧經常模糊了這幅畫面。晴朗的清晨,太陽會先在地平線上化作一顆紅色餘燼,接著攀升至鳥居中央,海鷗在頭頂盤旋、海浪在下方拍打。現今的鳥居建於1961年,取代了被颱風摧毀的原始鳥居,以塗上朱紅漆的強化鋼材打造,能承受冬季5公尺高的巨浪。
