宇佐神宮創建於公元725年，是日本全國逾4萬座八幡神社的總本宮。八幡神是融合了神格化應神天皇與佛教元素的習合神明——讓宇佐神宮在神道與佛教融合的歷史上格外重要。神社建築群包含三座主殿，採用獨特的「八幡造」建築樣式（兩座建築共用一個屋頂相連）。
從大元山山腳通往神社的參道，須穿越兩座橫跨清澈溪流的朱紅橋樑，攀登穿越森林的石階，經過多座鳥居——這段20分鐘的攀登過程營造出儀式性的漸進感。

6:00–21:00（境內）。寶物殿9:00–16:00。
