Successful throw (disc passes through torii) grants wish fulfillment. Purchase discs (¥300/2 discs) and throw from platform. Most discs hit the torii frame and shatter — the few that pass through feel like genuine achievement. The lake below is littered with broken pottery shards from centuries of wishes. **Boat ride experience:** The 30-minute lake crossing provides perspective on Lake Biwa's scale — the shoreline recedes, revealing how the lake functions as inland sea. On calm days, the water is mirror-smooth and blue-green; on windy days, whitecaps create rough chop. The boat passes small uninhabited islands and fishing boats. The approach to Chikubushima is dramatic — the island's steep forested slopes and temple buildings emerge from mist like a classical Japanese painting.
