Kaga Onsen (加賀温泉郷) refers to four historic hot spring villages in southern Ishikawa: Yamanaka, Yamashiro, Katayamazu, and Awazu. These villages have provided therapeutic bathing for 1,300+ years, attracting shoguns, poets, and artists throughout history. Each village has distinct characteristics: Yamanaka Onsen (山中温泉) sits in a forested gorge along Kakusenkei River with traditional wooden inns and public bathhouses; Yamashiro Onsen (山代温泉) features the reconstructed Kutani Kosen Kiln and historic bathhouse architecture; Katayamazu Onsen (片山津温泉) overlooks Lake Shibayama with modern resorts; Awazu Onsen (粟津温泉) claims to be Hokuriku's oldest hot spring (founded 718 AD).

The villages preserve rotenburo (outdoor baths) fed by natural mineral springs rich in sodium chloride and sulfates, beneficial for muscle pain, arthritis, and skin conditions. Traditional ryokan inns offer overnight stays with kaiseki dinners featuring Kaga cuisine, private baths, and tatami-floored rooms. Day-trip visitors can use public bathhouses (soto-yu, 総湯) for ¥500–800. The villages are connected by the Canbus (周遊バス) tourist loop, allowing easy exploration of all four areas. Kaga Onsen represents Japanese hot spring culture at its most traditional — wooden architecture, communal bathing, and integration with surrounding nature define the experience.

Guía privilegiada

Premium
**Yamanaka Onsen highlights:** This village is considered the most atmospheric — narrow lanes descend to Kakusenkei Gorge where a 1.3km walking trail follows the river past rock formations, bridges, and forest. The trail connects two public baths: Kikuno-yu (women's bath) and Yamanaka-za (山中座, cultural hall with occasional geisha performances). Korogibashi Bridge (こおろぎ橋), a vermillion wooden bridge over the gorge, is the village's photographic icon — visit at dawn (6:00–7:00) for mist rising from the river. Stay at Kayotei (花紫, luxury ryokan, ¥35,000–60,000 per person) for exceptional kaiseki and riverside rotenburo, or budget option Yamanaka Grand Hotel (¥15,000–20,000). **Yamashiro Onsen cultural sites:** The village's Kutani Kosen Kiln (九谷光仙窯) offers tours and pottery workshops (¥1,500–3,000, paint your own Kutani-yaki ceramics). The reconstructed Soyu bathhouse (2011) uses traditional architecture with stained-glass windows designed by contemporary artists — the bath's colorful light patterns create unique bathing atmosphere. The village also has an old-fashioned sweets street (湯の曲輪, Yu-no-Kuruwa) selling kaga-futo-maki (thick-rolled Kaga sweets) and onsen manju (hot spring steamed buns, ¥150 each). Walking the village in yukata (provided by your ryokan) and geta sandals embodies traditional onsen culture. **Multi-village strategy:** The Canbus day pass (¥1,100) allows visiting all four villages plus Natadera Temple (那谷寺, ancient mountain temple with moss-covered grottoes, ¥600 entry). Suggested route: Start at Yamanaka Onsen (morning soak + gorge walk), continue to Yamashiro Onsen (lunch + Kutani kiln visit), visit Natadera Temple (afternoon), and end at Katayamazu Onsen (sunset bath overlooking Lake Shibayama). This full-day tour samples the region's diversity without overnight stay. For overnight visitors, Yamanaka Onsen offers the most traditional atmosphere, while Katayamazu Onsen provides modern luxury with lake views.
