**Photography strategy:** The classic angle is from the clifftop parking area looking down the torii tunnel toward the sea — best in afternoon (15:00–17:00) when sun is behind you illuminating the gates. Morning creates backlight silhouette (also beautiful, but different aesthetic). Bring wide-angle lens (16-35mm) to capture the full procession. Drone photography is prohibited. **Offering box challenge:** The 5-meter-high offertory box (賽銭箱) has roughly 10% success rate — locals say even that is generous. Use ¥5 coin (lightest, most aerodynamic) and aim for trajectory not force. Watching other visitors attempt is half the entertainment. The shrine's head priest intentionally designed this difficulty as metaphor for life's challenges requiring persistence. **Ryugu no Shiofuki tide blowhole:** 5-min walk from the shrine's lower torii, the Dragon Palace Tide Blowhole (龍宮の潮吹) shoots seawater 30 meters into the air during high tide + strong waves. Timing requires luck and wave conditions (winter storms produce most dramatic eruptions). The name references underwater dragon palace mythology. **Combine with Tsunoshima Bridge:** 20-min drive connects Motonosumi to Tsunoshima Bridge (another top scenic spot) — efficient two-site morning. Start Motonosumi at 9:00 for early light, then Tsunoshima by 11:00. Both are remote, so having rental car is essential.
