Zentsuji Temple holds profound significance as the birthplace of Kobo Daishi, the revered monk who founded Shingon Buddhism and established the 88-temple pilgrimage circuit around Shikoku Island. As Temple Number 75 of the sacred pilgrimage, Zentsuji attracts both devout pilgrims and cultural visitors seeking to understand Japanese Buddhist heritage. The temple complex spreads across a vast area, divided into two main precincts showcasing different architectural periods and religious functions. For pilgrims walking the 88-temple circuit, Zentsuji represents a spiritual apex, being the founder's birthplace.
