As you watch, the sky's color intensifies to impossible blue due to the framing effect (Turrell's specialty: manipulating perception of light). Visit at different times of day: dawn's soft light, midday's intense blue, dusk's orange-pink transitions, or night when stars appear. Sessions are untimed — you can stay as long as desired. This meditative experience offers profound pause within the museum visit. The room is in the paid zone; check the museum map for location (it's easy to miss). **Rotating exhibitions vs permanent collection:** The museum stages 3–4 major rotating exhibitions annually featuring contemporary Japanese and international artists. Check the website before visiting to see current exhibitions — these often showcase cutting-edge video art, installation, and interactive media not seen elsewhere in Japan. If the rotating exhibition doesn't interest you, the permanent collection and architecture alone justify the ¥450 entry.
