**Cherry blossom hack:** The castle grounds cherry blossom is equally good as Ohori Park next door but has 40% fewer visitors. Specifically: the eastern stone wall path (minami-mitsuke gate side) has the longest cherry tunnel with zero stalls or crowds. **The surviving turret access:** The Moon-Viewing Turret (tsukimi yagura) is the best-preserved. Access through the Fukuoka City Museum grounds — the museum ticket (¥200) includes turret interior access, where you can see 16th-century mortise joints in the roof beams. **Nighttime:** The castle walls are illuminated year-round, dusk–23:00. The combination of stone walls, night sky, and city lights visible from the citadel creates a compressed historical panorama that very few foreign visitors experience. **History note:** Fukuoka-han lord Kuroda Nagamasa built the castle in 1607 using his own family wealth accumulated as a retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The site was deliberately left partially incomplete — Ieyasu's regulations prohibited castle construction that exceeded a certain strategic scale.
