伏見は日本三大酒どころのひとつで、なめらかで洗練された酒を生む例外的に柔らかな地下水(軟水)に恵まれる。40を超える酒蔵が営まれ、多くが試飲と見学を行う。柳並木の運河に映る白壁の蔵が、保存された江戸期の町並みをなす。
月桂冠大倉記念館は最も入りやすい酒蔵博物館で、1909年の蔵を使い、酒造り・発酵の科学の展示と、季節の酒5〜6種を出す試飲室を備える。
