Nyuto Onsen (乳頭温泉郷) is a cluster of seven secluded hot spring inns deep in the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, 50 kilometers north of Lake Tazawa. The name translates to 'nipple hot springs,' referencing the breast-shaped Mt. Nyuto (1,478m) visible from the valley. Each inn has distinct architecture and mineral composition — Tsurunoyu (鶴の湯) features thatched-roof buildings from the Edo period and milky-white sulfur water, Magoroku offers iron-rich red-brown water, and Ogama has acidic clear water known for skin beautification.

The village is only accessible by winding mountain roads, ensuring it remains uncrowded even in peak seasons. Visiting multiple inns in one day via the 'Onsen Meguri' (hot spring hopping) pass allows experiencing the varied water types. The atmosphere is deeply rural — no WiFi, minimal cell service, oil lamps in some buildings, and snow piles 2-3 meters high in winter. It's Japan's hot spring culture in its purest, least commercialized form.
