Lake Inawashiro

**Water sports timing:** July and August offer warmest water (20–23°C) and calmest conditions for beginners. Shidahama Beach has rental facilities: kayak/SUP ¥2,000/hour, windsurfing lessons ¥5,000/2 hours (advance booking recommended for lessons). Early morning (6:00–8:00) provides mirror-like conditions for photography and calm-water paddling before afternoon winds arrive. September water remains swimmable (18–20°C) with far fewer crowds. **Mt. Bandai reflection photography:** The iconic reflection shot requires three conditions: clear skies, no wind, and northern shore positioning (looking south toward the mountain). Optimal locations: Tenkyō-dai Observatory (513m elevation, a drive from lakeside) for elevated perspective, or Shidahama Beach for water-level symmetry. Best timing: 5:30–7:00am before wind disturbs the surface. Autumn (October) adds fiery foliage colors around the lake; winter (January–February) creates snow-capped mountain drama but limits lakeside access. **Swan migration:** 3,000+ whooper swans arrive from Siberia in November, remaining until March. Prime viewing: Osawa lakeside area (north shore, free access, 6:00–9:00am when swans are most active). Bring telephoto lens (300mm+) for close-up shots. The swans' white plumage against blue water and Mt. Bandai creates striking three-element compositions. Local photographers consider this one of Japan's premier wildlife photography locations, less crowded than Lake Kussharo (Hokkaido) but equally spectacular.
