星峠梯田層層分布在十日町高原海拔600公尺的山脊上,約200塊梯田順著山坡的自然地形而築。這片梯田最著名的景致出現在清晨(4月至6月、9月至10月),此時溫度逆轉會在山谷下方形成「雲海」,而梯田仍高於雲層之上——日出時分,注滿水的稻田同時倒映天空與雲朵,形成梯田彷彿懸浮於空中的視覺錯覺。
攝影師將星峠列為日本最美的三大梯田景致之一(與石川縣白米千枚田、佐賀縣濱野浦並列)。觀景區須從停車場陡峭攀登15分鐘才能抵達,這道門檻勸退了大多數輕鬆遊客,也讓此地保有相對的清靜。
