指宿以砂蒸溫泉聞名——工作人員會將遊客埋在沙灘上，用天然加熱的火山砂覆蓋全身直至頸部。這些沙由地下溫泉加熱至50–55°C，形成類似三溫暖的效果，沙的重量同時對身體產生壓迫感。這10到15分鐘的「活埋」體驗，據說能促進血液循環、緩解肌肉痠痛，並引發深層排汗。
主要的砂浴設施「砂樂」就直接座落在指宿海灘上，可眺望海景——你會真正被埋在沙灘上，距離拍岸浪花僅20公尺。

全年皆宜。冬季造訪能欣賞氤氳蒸氣的氛圍。陰天比烈日下更舒適。退潮時段能享有更寬敞的沙灘與更佳環境。
