能古島是一座淚滴狀的小島,從福岡西側的姪濱港搭渡船10分鐘即達,全長不過3公里,住著800位居民、一家小型釀酒坊,以及日本最完整的四季花園之一——能古島花之公園。公園全年輪替栽種:春天罌粟與波斯菊、夏天繡球與向日葵、秋天再度波斯菊、冬天水仙與觀賞用羽衣甘藍。
面向玄界灘的島嶼西岸尚未開發——穿過農田的碎石小徑、停著木船的小漁港,以及南端一座須穿越松林步行30分鐘才能抵達的燈塔。這條只有在地人知道的西岸環線,與觀光公園的體驗完全兩樣,正是多數遊客從未見過的能古島。
