Usuiso, on the Iwaki coast, lost most of its houses and a large number of its residents to the tsunami in March 2011. The city built its memorial museum on that ground, a short walk from the sea wall and the rebuilt beach, and it opened in May 2020.

The emphasis is on the tsunami itself and on what happened afterwards in a city that took in tens of thousands of evacuees from the towns further north while dealing with its own destruction. There is a VR reconstruction of the wave, objects and records held from the affected districts, and talks by local storytellers. It is smaller and more specific than the prefectural museum at Futaba, and the two are complementary rather than duplicates.

The museum holds records and objects from the disaster, a VR reconstruction of the tsunami and talks by storytellers.
