鎌倉大佛是一尊13.35公尺高、重121公噸的青銅阿彌陀佛,鑄造於1252年的鎌倉時代——當時這座海濱小鎮是日本實質上的首都。大佛原本供奉於巨大的木造大殿內,該建築1498年被海嘯摧毀,此後大佛露天承受風雨逾500年——風化的青銅綠鏽與露天的姿態,帶來一股強烈的恆常與寧靜之感。
近看大佛的尺度令人驚嘆——可繞行基座360度,觀察袈裟細膩的衣褶、半闔雙眼冥想的祥和神情,以及某些角度可見的鑄造接縫。大佛中空(1923年地震後以鐵條加固),可加¥50入內部看13世紀的鑄造結構與工法。宏偉的尺度、歷史意義與露天的姿態,使它成為日本最具代表性的佛像之一。
