元乃隅神社以123座鮮豔的朱紅鳥居沿著海岸崖頂傾瀉而下、直抵鈷藍色的日本海,紅色鳥居與綠草藍海交織成戲劇性的畫面,成為西日本被拍攝次數最多的景致之一。這座神社建於1955年,起因是當地一位漁夫夢見白狐(稻荷神的使者),雖然歷史相對年輕,但這片景致卻彷彿亙古長存。
鳥居隧道從崖頂停車場向下延伸100公尺,抵達距海浪僅幾公尺的小神社。暴風雨時海浪偶爾會濺上最下方的鳥居,為早已風化的漆色再添幾分鹹味。鳥居頂端立著日本最難投中的賽錢箱——安裝在5公尺高的鳥居頂端,遊客須將硬幣向上投擲穿過鳥居。傳說成功便能實現願望,但物理法則毫不留情。這座神社地處偏僻(距主要城市60公里),確保遊客能純粹體驗這片壯麗的自然美景,不受都市背景干擾。
