神橋是一座朱漆木橋,在日光神社區的入口橫跨大谷川。1636年建成,被視為日本三大名橋之一(與岩國錦帶橋、山梨猿橋並列)。現存結構為1907年洪水後以傳統工法重建——不用釘,僅靠榫接與鐵箍。
這座橋曾是通往東照宮的神聖入口,僅將軍與敕使可通行;庶民須走下游的另一座橋。如今遊客可付¥300過橋,或單純從河岸拍攝。朱紅的漆、翠綠的林與清澈的急流,構成日本最具代表性的構圖之一,尤其在秋天楓樹添上緋紅與金黃時,以及春天新綠襯著藍天之際。
