大濠公園建於1929年,將福岡城的外護城河改建為湖畔公園——環繞著點綴島嶼的湖泊、一圈2公里的橢圓步道,如今是全市最主要的戶外聚集場所。這座公園的非凡之處不在於它有什麼,而在於它周遭的一切:在一座150萬人口的城市裡,這裡是每個人週日早晨都會來的地方,慢跑者、打太極的長者、婚紗攝影、划租借小船的孩子與街頭樂手交織成一幅無法複製的當代福岡生活切片。
公園西北角的日式庭園(門票¥240)是1984年在填湖造地上建成的池泉迴遊式庭園,內設茶屋,供應抹茶與季節和菓子。
