**Shoningahama vs Takegawara:** Shoningahama (beach version) is more photogenic and authentic — you're actually on the sand beach with ocean horizon visible. Takegawara is indoor, quicker, and less weather-dependent. First-timers: try Shoningahama if weather permits. **Burial technique:** The staff bury you systematically — legs, torso, arms, then mound sand over your chest. The weight creates claustrophobic sensation for some people. Signal the staff if it's too heavy and they'll reduce the sand load. Most people tolerate 10 minutes; 15 is maximum. **Post-bath:** After sand removal, shower facilities let you rinse off volcanic sand, then soak in regular hot spring bath (included in price). The bath-after-sand sequence is the intended full experience.
