Kagoshima City Aquarium (いおワールドかごしま水族館) sits on the waterfront directly facing Sakurajima volcano, with the main Kuroshio Tank — a 1,500-ton tank housing whale sharks, manta rays, and tuna — visible from both inside the building and through exterior windows from the harbor promenade. The aquarium focuses on Kagoshima's marine ecosystems: the Kuroshio Current, coral reefs, deep-sea creatures, and local dolphins.

The dolphin pool is outdoor and open to the sky, with Sakurajima as backdrop during performances.

The moon jellyfish tank is particularly photogenic (pink and blue LED lighting cycles). **Combo with ferry:** The aquarium is 100 meters from Sakurajima Ferry terminal. Combine with a ferry round-trip to Sakurajima (¥200, 15 min each way) — you can stay on the ferry without disembarking for a quick Sakurajima viewing cruise. Total aquarium + ferry visit: 3 hours.
