**Seven bath strategy:** Each bathhouse has unique character: Satono-yu (里の湯, largest, modern design, mountain views), Ichi-no-yu (一の湯, cave bath, historic), Mandara-yu (まんだら湯, barrel outdoor baths), Goshono-yu (御所の湯, most luxurious, waterfalls), Kouno-yu (鴻の湯, quiet, locals' favorite), Yanagi-yu (柳湯, smallest, intimate), and Jizo-yu (地蔵湯, family-friendly). Visiting all seven requires 5–6 hours — most visitors choose 3–4 baths over an evening. Start with Kouno-yu (less crowded, beautiful wooden interior), then Goshono-yu (grandest), and end with Satono-yu (largest, good finale). **Yukata walking culture:** Kinosaki is Japan's best town for yukata culture — the entire town walks in robes, geta, and towels (温泉手ぬぐい) marking their ryokan. This isn't costume play; it's authentic resort behavior. Ryokan provide yukata (free with stay), and wearing it to dinner, baths, and shops is standard. The geta-on-stone clip-clop sound and willow-lit canal create timeless atmosphere. **Winter crab season (November–March):** Kinosaki is famous for Matsuba crab (松葉蟹, snow crab) served at ryokan in multi-course dinners — steamed, grilled, sashimi, and crab porridge. This is peak season: onsen après winter walks, crab feasts, and snow-dusted town create quintessential Japanese winter experience. Book ryokan 2+ months ahead for crab season weekends. Expect ¥25,000–50,000/person for crab kaiseki with quality onsen room.
