Premium
**Noryo-yuka reservation:** Summer river platforms are Kyoto's most atmospheric dining setting. Reservations required 1–2 weeks ahead for weekends, especially in peak summer (July–August). Ask specifically for kawayuka seating when booking — not all tables are on the platforms. Budget ¥6,000–12,000 for kaiseki-style dinner, ¥3,000–5,000 for izakaya with platforms. **Restaurant recommendations:** Kiyamachi Sakuragawa (木屋町桜川, noryo-yuka kaiseki ¥8,000–15,000, reserve 2 weeks ahead), Misoguigawa (an upscale French-Japanese fusion restaurant in a converted century-old teahouse, river-view kaiseki-style courses — significantly pricier than casual dining, reserve ahead), or other platform restaurants along the alley with varying cuisine styles. English menus increasingly common but not universal. **Walking timing:** The alley is most photogenic at dusk (18:00–19:30) when lanterns light and the narrow corridor glows amber. Midday is underwhelming (most restaurants closed). Late night (22:00+) sees drunken crowds — atmospheric but less refined. Walk the full 500m length from Shijo to Sanjo for the complete experience.
