Uji, a las afueras de Kioto, es la patria del té matcha japonés. La calle Byodoin-omotesando está repleta de casas de té centenarias donde probar matcha de la máxima calidad, helados de té verde y soba con aroma de té. El templo Byodoin, cuya Sala del Fénix aparece en la moneda de 10 yenes, es Patrimonio de la Humanidad.
