Joren Falls

Joren Falls (浄蓮の滝, Joren-no-taki) is a 25-meter waterfall cascading through columnar basalt formations in the forested mountains of central Izu. The falls are fed by Kanogawa River and plunge into an emerald pool surrounded by ferns and moss-covered rocks. The basalt columns create geometric hexagonal patterns characteristic of volcanic cooling — the Izu Peninsula's volcanic origins are visibly displayed in the cliff faces.
The falls are accessed via 150-step staircase descending through forest to the viewing platform at the base. The surrounding area remains cool even in summer due to forest shade and waterfall mist — a natural air conditioning effect that makes Joren Falls popular escape from coastal humidity. The site is part of the Amagi Mountain Range, a region of hiking trails, wasabi streams, and hot springs.
