Mt. Rokko (六甲山, 931m) overlooks Kobe, Osaka, and the Inland Sea, offering what's called the '¥10 million night view' (一千万ドルの夜景) — a reference to the dazzling density of city lights along the coast. The mountain's observation decks provide 270-degree panoramas where Kobe Port's container terminals, Osaka Bay's bridges, and the glittering urban corridor create one of Japan's three greatest night views.

The mountain area includes ropeway access, observation tower, botanical garden, and the Rokko Garden Terrace with restaurants and viewing platforms. Beyond night views, Mt. Rokko offers hiking trails, seasonal flowers, and escape from coastal humidity — the summit is 5°C cooler than sea level.

Guide d'initié

Premium
**Optimal viewing timing:** Arrive 30 minutes before sunset (varies seasonally — 17:00 winter, 18:30 summer) to watch the city transition from daylight to twilight to full night illumination. The 'blue hour' (20 minutes post-sunset) when the sky is deep blue and city lights just activate is most photogenic. Stay 60–90 minutes post-sunset for full night view experience. **Winter clarity advantage:** December–February offers the clearest air (low humidity, cold fronts) for maximum visibility — you can often see Osaka's skyscrapers 30km away and Awaji Island. Summer (June–August) is hazy with reduced visibility but comfortable temperatures. Autumn (October–November) balances clarity and pleasant weather. **Photography settings:** Use tripod (permitted on decks) for long exposure. Settings: ISO 100–400, f/8–11, 4–15 second exposure depending on light levels. The view is so wide that 24–70mm zoom lens captures the full sweep. For smartphone: use Night Mode and brace against railing for stability. The view's fame ensures it photographs well even with basic gear.
