Megane-bashi ('Spectacles Bridge') is a double-arched stone bridge built in 1634 by the Chinese monk Mokusunyoujo — the oldest stone arch bridge in Japan. The name derives from the reflection: the two arches and their reflection in the Nakashima River create a perfect circle resembling spectacles. The bridge is 22 meters long with each arch spanning 11 meters.

The riverbank below contains the famous 'heart stone' — a natural heart-shaped stone embedded in the river wall that became a local legend and now attracts couples seeking good fortune. Finding the heart stone (it's small, about 20cm wide) is considered lucky.

**Reflection photography:** The spectacles reflection is visible only during specific water levels and lighting conditions — the optimal window is 10:00–14:00 on sunny days with normal river flow. After heavy rain the river is too turbulent; during drought the arches sit too high above water. **Heart stone hunt:** The heart stone is on the eastern retaining wall, 3 meters south of the bridge. During summer (June-August) vegetation sometimes obscures it. A smartphone flashlight helps identify the shape in shadow. **Riverside walk:** The Nakashima River has a 2km paved path passing under 10 historic stone bridges — Megane-bashi is #3 from the south. The full walk (40 minutes) passes through residential Nagasaki with no tourist infrastructure, offering a glimpse of daily city life.
