기리시마 온천향 — 화산 고원의 온천 마을
기리시마 화산 고원은 해발 600~1,700m에 자리하며, 20여 개의 활화산・휴화산이 증기 분출구, 산성 분화구 호수, 미네랄 풍부한 온천의 풍경을 만들어냈다. 일곱 개의 서로 다른 온천 구역이 고원 곳곳에 흩어져 있으며, 각기 다른 화산원에서 물을 공급받아 유백색 유황탕부터 철분 붉은빛 산성 온천까지 다양하다. 가장 밀집된 곳은 마루오온천과 에비노고원 주변으로, 전통 료칸이 하이킹 코스 사이 숲속 공터에 자리해 있다. 오전 9시까지 계곡에 아침 안개가 흐르고, 황혼엔 야생 사슴이 고원 초원에서 풀을 뜯는다.
