Philosopher's Path — Cherry Blossom Canal Walk
The Philosopher's Path (哲学の道, Tetsugaku no Michi) is a 2-kilometer stone walkway following a canal lined with hundreds of cherry trees, connecting Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion) to Nanzen-ji Temple. The path is named after philosopher Nishida Kitaro (1870–1945) who walked this route daily for meditation.
The canal is particularly famous during cherry blossom season (early April) when petals fall into the water creating a pink river, and in summer when the dense tree canopy provides cool shade. Small cafes, craft shops, and residential homes line the path, creating a contemplative neighborhood atmosphere.
